Right now, there is no Option for Mini-Series. Even if a Series has only one Season, there is still a Season-view.
Would be nice to mark a Series as a Mini-Series to avoid the Season-view and just show the Episodes.

Yeah. Or Plex should recognize if there is no Season-Folder inside a Series-Folder (just the episodes) and then just show this Series without Season-View. This is how i arrange Mini-Series inside my folders anyway.

Many of us do not separate seasons into folders as it is not required.
Also many Mini-Series that you can get a hold of usually comes as 1 file and is technically a movie. Either that or you can just mux it together with mkvmerge and make it 1 file.
Well there is no need to use any program to alter your files if you want to merge them. Just adding cd1, cd2, cd3 or pt1, pt2, pt3 at the end of your files named “1x01 title” will merge them in Plex.
The only thing relevant is how you get your metadata. I always check TheTVdb first to see if the mini-series is there and add it with its proper naming there.
It is a 2 part mini series. I could have added it to the movies trusting imdb in which case I would have named my files “Coma (2012).cd1.avi” and “Coma (2012).cd2.avi” or just add it in the series naming the files “1x01 Coma.avi” and “1x02 Coma.avi” or if i went on ignoring the naming on the TVdb just “1x01 Coma.cd1.avi” and “1x01 Coma.cd2.avi” to have both episode as one on plex. But why bother when the TVdb has them both listed.
I don't think we need to mark it as a mini-series at all. I think we need to flatten series with only one season, as suggested.
I disagree.
Just because I may have only one series of a multi-series set does not mean that what I have is a mini-series. I may intend adding further series later (which may simply not be available yet), but in the meantime it would be useful to see that I have only one of potentially many.
Similarly, just because I have a set which is identified (on TVDB) as a series, I would like the option to treat it as a mini-series if that is what suits me.
What we are basically talking about here is more sophisticated control over "Seasons" in general.
well, i think he means, like i suggested, that plex should mark series as mini-series, if there is no seasons folder
If that's what he meant it isn't what he said - he said "if there is ONE season", not "if there are NO seasons".
And that's exactly my point - having only one season of a show isn't the same as a show not having any seasons. They shouldn't be treated the same precisely because it isn't the same. imho. ymmv. :)
A mini-series / one season show / no season show; These are all the same to Plex and should be treated the same. Plex doesn't really care about folders and file location as long as it can scrape it for meta-data.
One of the major differences between TV shows and Movies is that movies don't have multi-tiered containers that they sit in (much to the angst of many as that would solve Multi-Edition & Alternate-Ending movies).
Movies only have the 1 container they are in, the movie itself. TV shows have 3 in total, the Series, the Season (Special or Season00 counts) and finally the episode itself.
The best way to handle this would be to dynamically show the Season Level container if there is more than one and to otherwise "flatten" that level into the Series Container. By Dynamically accounting for only one season (regardless why there is only one) shows would have the episodes displayed one level higher. If that changes (for what ever reason), plex can always show the season level selection page again.
One thing to note, thetvdb.com will always have at least 1 season for any show regardless if there is actually a "season" there or not, thus we will always get a season container.
Now, there is however a good idea here in forcing plex to flatten something into one season regardless if how thetvdb.com arranges it. For shows where they are arranged by season for convenience, but would do best being displayed in aired or chronological or DVD order. This information is available on the site and plex at least pulls down the aired date for an episode. For example, all three listed above have a specials season and if plex dynamically displayed the season level based on what I have (and I would have the specials) then you would always see the season level container. But shows like Dune have so few episodes that it becomes needless to show a season level container.
Adding an option in the Series level to flatten the season (as well as have plex dynamically flatten based on what is present) and then optionally use a different order if available would be a welcome addition.
But XBMC handles this in a way that is useful for mini-series and other shows with only one set of episodes. You choose whether to flatten all (regardless of number of seasons), flatten none or flatten only shows with a single season.
Please bear in mind that within Plex, there is the concept of sections. I am not suggesting that we identify all shows with only one season as mini-series. I am suggesting that the way single-season (only one season on the server regardless of how many seasons there are out there) shows are displayed should be the same as the way as mini-series: flattened.
That being said, I would choose to put mini-series in a different section so they could be grouped together. This helps separate them since they are often somewhere in between movies and normal TV shows.
Were I separating them into their own section, it would be very appropriate to be able to sort sections appropriately, with special sections like Mini-Series and Specials at the end instead of in alphabetical order. A thread is here for that, fortunately: http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/topic/66712-sort-order-for-sections/
I would like the option to "flatten" single season.
ie another frontend I used in the past (Meedios) had the option to "skip single choices" so if only one selection was available ie one season, it skipped the season panel and went straight to the episode list.
