[implemented] Movie Collections

+1 for Movie Collections in the same way AS the tv-shows

+1 collections under single icon

In essence Plex just gives lip service to collection data and what most people want is a Collection Display (similar to TV shows and what Kodi does) of all movies where you only see one Icon with a sub display for all collections PLUS the movies that are not yet part of a collection.

This is exactly what I want.

Some simple examples: James Bond films, Indiana Jones films, Harry Potter films, Star Wars films, Star Trek films. I want a movies screen where I have all my non-series films as their own posters/list items, and then each of those series grouped into a single item each that expands or goes to a sub-screen just for those items when clicked.

+1

I too would like to see collections of movies flattend in the movies section.

Just a reminder

Adding a +1 here does nothing, you need to like the first post for it to count and get noticed

  • 1, would love this, have been missing it for some time now.

Wonder if any of the devs are watching this thread?

It’s got at least 1 Ninja watching it, at least… @MovieFan.Plex posted on page 4 I think I saw…

Yup. Following along. I have no info to share though. This is a feature I would like to see too

I would love some more automatic grouping for movies!! It would make life so much easier!!!

I’ll throw my hat into the ring. I +1’d the initial post as it’s a feature that I would really like to see.

+1 Asked for this before and it was one of the very few things keeping me on Kodi/XBMC, now I’ve actually completely moved to Plex this is a necessary feature. Movies in sets are just sprawled all over my library and it’s just stupid quite honestly.

Definitely, +1!

Yes, I think this is very much needed!!

sjgh, first post september 2013 … anyway added my “like” +1

I switched recently from Kodi for multi device support. But the honeymoon is over. Plex is severely missing several key features that Kodi has over plex, including support for collections. Plex supports collections, but in a hidden method that you have to get use to. Plus it handles Collections more like a secondary genre tab that seems to get over written by metadata updates or lost if the database pukes. ex.Every time I’ve sorted and fixed the meta data that was incorrect scrapped plex ignores the locks and I’ve ended back at the start.

I’ve used several programs to collect the correct metadata and customize my library. Plex seems to have a mind of its own. As mentioned you can turn data locks on, but Plex ignores them. You can setup the collections and they work until Plex updates something. ex. Star Wars Theatrical vs Star Wars Special Edition Collections. Currently Plex likes to undo the naming conventions and will stack both together b/c Plex looks primarily for IMDB tag ID. If collections are going to be successful in Plex there needs to be a better way to ignore the web based metadata too. I’d prefer they both be group in their own… wait, what’s the word, oh yea… COLLECTION!

COLLECTIONS NEED TO BE GROUPED as mentioned previously(similar to TV shows and what Kodi does). First of all when you have lots of series of films that’s a lot of screen realty.**** Using a similar model to Kodi. Setup a group with a Master/Parent that controls the data set for the group. Once the group is set Child Items/Shows or Movies can be added in a sub menu with their own meta data.

PLEASE!!!

I couldn’t agree more. The sad part is this thread is over 3 years old, 400 likes, and almost 6,000 views and yet no movement on implementation – I’d say that’s a pretty strong indication that the developers have absolutely no interest in listening to the community (or paying members for that matter) with regards to feature requests.

I don’t think that’s fair. It’s well known that Plex doesn’t discuss their roadmap or schedules, so you have no way of knowing if there has been any movement on implementation. Secondly, I don’t think this is a trivial feature. I expect it’s going to take some work. There are a lot of very popular features that people are waiting for, and it’s not a huge team, so not everything you want is going to happen on your schedule.

There have been some UI changes recently that, by themselves, I don’t care for. But they’ve said that those changes are in preparation for upcoming new features, which may be big and surprising. So I’m willing to be patient and see what’s coming.

Indeed. Of several threads I monitor and features I ‘like’ and wish for, this feature is near the bottom for me.
I’m still waiting on Plex Devs to write in server side functions for controlling clients. Things like bit rate quality limiting, client monitoring, concurrent external connection limiting, start as a service instead of user daemon.
You know, stuff that, as a server, most other “server” systems have without needing 3rd party apps/plugins.

But, I digress, yes, collection enhancement features would be nice, but they aren’t at the top of my personal wants list.

The guys on emby did this in a week a few years ago. How hard is this to implement? I am really shocked that Plex cannot do the same thing.
