[implemented] Movie Collections

PLEX, Please implement the ability for us to place Movie Series Collections into one folder in the movies section. Thanks for your help…

Using the existing Collections features only allows a filter to be applied to view selected Collections (assuming you have updated all movies metadata with the collection they belong too). We all appear to want the same thing - to be able to view all movies in the library, collections or not, in a single view, and see a single poster for a collection, click it and it opens up the individual movie posters within that collection. Can this functionality be provided Plex Team ? Please

Any News about this 2 year old feature request? :-/

I have several Movie Collections and the look and feel of my Library is simply horrible. I would save so many space if i could group a Collection into one folder/poster like TV Shows.

And no, the Collection Filter is not an alternative.

I too would love this feature! would make it much easier when browsing for content!

The filter is inadequate because it only displays movies that are part of a collection.
It does nothing to clean up the display of ALL movies where a collection like James Bond takes up several pages of display icons where it could be better displayed as one Collection Icon.

The Filter is great if you are looking for something specific. But if you are looking at the library for the first time and are not familiar with it, then there is no other display option than to display every icon for every movie which could take forever to find a movie you are looking for.

I really wish they would implement this already, this is such a basic feature to the core part of Plex!

Please in the next Plex Version!!!

This gets my vote +1.
This is something “other” media software has been able to do for some time.
We should be able to “collect” Movies & TV shows into collections.
Also, has anyone of the Plex developers responded to this request at all?

+1
One of the few things kodi made much better.

+1 as well (yes, I liked the first post to officially vote)

Collections weren’t the reason I initially switched to Kodi for my home theater set-up, but while the other reasons have diminished, the way Plex handles collections is a large part of why I haven’t switched back to PHT/Media Player. I don’t have a large collection compared to many of you (~200 movies) but grouping them into collections makes for a way better browsing experience. I don’t find the current method of collections as filters to be useful at all.

Someone previously asked in this thread this question and no one bothered to answer it and I would like to know the answer:

Where do you find “Collections” for movies? I can’t seem to find this feature.

Collections can be created in three ways. First, when you first created your movie library, there is a checkbox in the Advanced page entitled “Use collection info from The Movie Database.” If this is enabled when the library is created or updated, if the Movie Database has your movies configured as part of a collection, Plex will do the same.

You can also create collections manually in two ways, explained here: https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201273953-Collections

Once Collections are created, they appear in Plex apps as a filter. In Plex Web you access them by clicking on “New Filter” and selecting “Collection.”

I very much miss this feature having worked with XBMC/Kodi for a while. It’s easy enough to create your own collection from the star wars movies because if you search “star wars” all the movies come up. I want to add all the Bond films to a collection, i have to go find each one.

What i really want to do is just search “bond” and have all the bond movies come up. I’ve added a few of the bond movies to a “James Bond” collection by editing the “tags” data, but when i search “james bond” nothing comes up. am i missing something?

The way XBMC does it is just perfect, you see the james bond poster in the middle of you movie library, click on it, and there they all are! why has this not been implemented to plex yet?!

Please implement a way to group movies in a collection under a single poster when viewing all movies!

In the Movie section click on Options (three Horiz lines on the upper left)
Select NEW FILTER
Select Collection.

But in order forthis to work you have to edit the server settings for AGENTS and configure TMB Agent to use collection data.

If you didn’t have this setting checked you may need to re-scan your library to have the data put into the DB.

I think part of the problem is they have already called “collections” to mean something else than all the other media centers. How about “Groups” ? Then they could include a sorting checkbox to collapse/expand them regardless of how else you set your viewing filter.

Movie “Sets” would be a fine name for it.

Suspect this feature request is now pushed down the priority list with the retirement of PHT and so much energy going in to PMP now. :frowning:

Plex doesn’t handle collections it merely filters movies so it’s not any different than using a tag filter.

And the main issue is that doing it as a filter does not also display movies that are not in a collection so there is no way to display all movies with collection groupings at the same time.

In essence Plex just gives lip service to collection data and what most people want is a Collection Display (similar to TV shows and what Kodi does) of all movies where you only see one Icon with a sub display for all collections PLUS the movies that are not yet part of a collection.

+1 for Movie Collections
