I would +1 this more if I could. Right now I just maintain two separate versions and change the poster so there is a difference. For extras, I abuse the TV Show scanner and a separate ‘Extras’ section, which works quite well. Having that all integrated would be the bees knees!
+1 for me too. More me, just pulling the name from the file name would be sufficient for me.
Maybe a specific file naming convention could be detected for the label?
Avatar (2009) {Extended Cut} 1080p.mkv
Avatar (2009) {Theatrical Cut} 1080p.mkv
Avatar (2009) {Making of Documentary} 480p.mkv
etc

+1ing; it'd also be neat to have multiple files with the same cut, but different encoding filters (e.g. denoised and non-denoised) be selectable. A general-purpose "versions" system seems in order.
+2.
for versions and extras.

Please try and implment some system to do this it would be very useful.
+1 !!! Wish I could upvote this more. Seriously bugs me having to split movies just because I have multiple cuts of the same film.

You can upvote it more, as you didn't actually upvote it at all so far. To actually help push a feature request you are supposed to "like" the first post of the thread. Please read the forum rules. "+1" doesn't really do anything.
As part of the multiple version theme, it appears that I still can't select variants of the same movie that exist in the same folder when using my Ipad (Plex IOS 3.2.2) and Windows PM Server (9.8.1). When I access the same server from a Roku, I can select each variant.

Tobias,
PlexBMC pulls up a dialog when selecting a stack. Ben Hur is a good example. In my case the dialog box will pull up Ben Hur Part 1 as a selection, part 2 as a selection and the movie extra. Can this be done in the Plex Client?
8/28/13, Plexbmc has this feature and so did BoxeeBox.
I also would really like to have support for:
.Theatrical version
.Director Cut
.Extended Edition
.Unrated Version
.Fanedit version
.3D version
so many versions of a same movie are possible these days...
Actually just being able to select among the various version of a movie when there is more than one version would do the job nicely.
+1 (and yes I liked the post)
This would be really useful when it comes to UFC/MMA events. If you set them as movies and scrape from themoviedb, which has all the events, then have them named like:
UFC 164 Henderson vs. Pettis - Facebook Prelims
UFC 164 Henderson vs. Pettis - Prelims
UFC 164 Henderson vs. Pettis - Main Event
It would stack up as one event and would make my life complete!
This is the feature I most want to see in Plex. Right now I've got different cuts of a bunch of movies. While it is kind of fun to play Reel Roulette and just pick one and see which version of a film I get, I would love even more to be able to tell these apart.
Currently all my DVD or BD extras are in different folders on my PC and not even loaded into Plex. Having a system to group them with the movie but to be able to select them from a drop down menu would be very cool...
I've just realised... this thread is now over a year old! It was the very first thread created in this sub-forum when PlexPass was announced (I just happened to be online at the time) and now has 182 likes!
+1 I wait for this about 3 year
