[Implemented] Parental Controls

Well, this is long overdue: Parental Controls are the one thing I miss the most.

I'm sure others can figure out how to implement it, but since most movies have MPAA (or others) rating tags, this would be a good starting point.

iTuens does it (iDevices and iTunes have excellent Parental Controls) - Plex should too! ;)

Oh, and of course some sort of myPlex integration is crucial, so that my kids, who are connected to our server via myPlex, can be locked in or out...

I have 2 virtual Plex Media Servers running on Ubuntu. One contains sections for Movies (PG-13 and under), TV Shows, Kids’ Movies, and Kids’ TV Shows. My 4 year olds know to go to their Kids sections to watch their stuff. The other virtual server has only Movies (including R) and TV Shows. This way I have to go to settings and select the other server. If they pick the wrong server on the Roku, Kids sections won’t come up. I also share to some friends and family who vary as to what types of movies and shows they want, so I give their Plex account access to the server that has their desired level of content. Balances the load on the virtual servers as well.



Having a pin type of unlock would be great!

I think this is tightly dependent of multi-user support and can only be implemented after we attend to that (wtihout being overly complicated).

I think my idea of Marking content with a flag and requiring a pin wouldnt be that hard and is similar to how many cable / sat boxes handle it.



Full blown multi user support with restrictions however would be even better.

I disagree. All you need is a filtering criteria and to decide what level of granularity to offer the user. MPAA rating is a good start and with the option to enable/disable by section or even to go item by item I can see this being easier then figuring out the DB complexities of multiple users.
