I have kids aged 2 and 4 and they can both use Plex to watch their movies and tv. Now so far they know which sections are theirs and they have not been curious enough to try to watch any of our grown up stuff, but I’d prefer it wasn’t even there to see somehow (I guess we’d need profile support as well?).
I have small kids as well and don’t want them wondering around the collection to be freaked out by some R rated horror movie or something.
One legacy / DLNA compatible way to lock out a library section or video might be to have a pin code and the allow library’s / folders to be flagged as protected possibly with unique pins.
When a client goes to access the library / folder they are presented with a virtual folder list of 0 through 9, each time they select they get the same thing and it only ends if they have selected them in the correct order… The back button would dump them back to root to avoid having to back track through the fake folders and once a library / folder had been unlocked (by a client) it would remain unlocked (for that client) until an idle time had passes to re-lock it.
My thought would be simple. On the PMS you add user accounds. For each section on the server you add the users you want to allow to see the content. The on the plex client you need to login… in case nothing is provided (default) access to all public sections is provided
Probably much more complex than stated but does sound simple
I think that this was a feature request for years. At the moment I have a folder on my mini with adults stuff which I remove from the section (nice feature of PMS is that it remembers watched status) but it’s far from ideal. Password protected section is really needed. Oh yes, background images from this kind of section shouldn’t be used as well
a huge +1. Please, please, please… my son is 10 now, and he very much wants to watch movies with zombies, chainsaws and the such. But I don’t want to have to stay up and deal with the nightmares… c’mon pled devs, I know you have something great up your sleeve…
