Feature which should have been in built.
I have to pull videos into another app for this. I use VLC on iOS for mobile to watch training and educational videos at 1.5x speed which is a really unfortunate workaround. Please prioritize some of the polishing type features that are quick and easy and greatly improve the experience of the users. I’ve seen too many companies prioritize big features at the expense of this type of stuff creating tons of user animosity and friction for no good reason.
With playback speed available on Netflix, I think we should put this debate to bed-- it is a feature people want. And if Netflix can have it, Plex users certainly should as well.
learning at 1x speed is so archaic. its 2020. Get with the times Plex. We are beings who thrive on knowledge. The more efficiently we can process stimuli the better it is for the whole of humanity.
In the words of the great Albert Einstein: “Learning is experience. Everything else is just information.”
and that is why I need to be able to watch my vr porn at 3x speed
Absolutely agree - we need this feature yesterday. I understand why Plex wouldn’t want to respond to feature suggestions, but given that we’ve requested this for many years and this is a top voted feature, some acknowledgement would be nice …
I’m pretty happy with my current Plex experience so far but wanted to put my vote in on this much wanted feature. I love my Plex but recently found myself playing long web series in a VLC playlist just to play at faster speeds then marking them played in Plex. Hope this makes its way into an update soon.
I’d like to have this feature the other way around as well, that is both speed up and slow down.
Reason being when watching content in other languages it’s somewhat difficult to follow the subtitles at normal playback speeds, so playback speeds like 0.9x or 0.95x can be really helpful.
So +1 for this suggestion with 0.9x, 0.95x and 1.25x, 1.5x, 2x, 4x playback speeds.
+1 !! Using Chrome just for Plex sucks. I finally got Kodi setup on my Mac and now on my iPad so I can control playback. I can’t get it to work on my iPhone though so I’m stuck with Plex 1x speed which makes the news super slow to listen to
This feature is absolutely crucial to me. I wish Plex could be upfront and tell us if they have any intentions of including this.
The contempt the Plex devs have for the userbase would be laughable if we weren’t paying for the experience.
I want this for roku. Why limit to receiver?
+1
I want also the playback speed control (1x, 1.25x, 1.5x, 1.75x, 2x, etc…) in Plex.
(i use Plex on LG WebOS TV)
Definitely would like this feature. Windows Media Center had it (one single option that was like 1.25x) you could barely tell the difference but it helped chew through programs
Any progress on a video playback speed feature? This would be very useful for training videos.
This will probably prompt me to install Emby and try it for the first time.
For my instance, 1.1x, 1.2x, 1.3x, 1.4x, 1.5x, 2.x, 4x, 8x, 16x would be necessary! It a must have feature!
I went through the entire process of subscribing, setting up my server, and organizing my library just to wind up at this 7 year old thread for something I didn’t even think to check first because this is basic functionality for any video playback app.
I’m glad I didn’t buy the lifetime pass. Maybe instead of working on this Live TV garbage that nobody cares about, we could get some help with the core features that we’re all actually paying for.
In the era of information overdose, it’s critical to have such feature because it saves life. Your life, which you’re spending while watching some not so necessery information on a 100% speed instead 200% or 150%
I can’t believe this isn’t a feature. I would seriously straight up shell out for a plex pass lifetime license TODAY if there was any guarantee by the Plex team to add this functionality. I wanted to use Plex to watch my class lectures from college, but they are way too slow to watch at 1x speed. I always watch them at 2x speed. It’s ridiculous that there hasn’t been any word from the team on this at all.
Supposedly it’s already out now. It’s running on the beta versions of some of the apps. It’s not available on the apps I can use with my devices so I haven’t tested it myself yet. I’m getting ready to switch my server over and subscribe.
The most impressive thing is how it was handled. After it was requested the team heard the request, told the users they were working on it, came back to give updates on the progress and finally implemented it. Meanwhile hear in Plex land we’ve been waiting years longer and haven’t even had an acknowledgement. ![]()
