Hello?
Any update?
I’ve seen a couple of Chrome extensions that do this with any video in any browser, so seems to me that it’s not a complicated thing.
Thanks.
I don’t think that anybody is reading this topic from the developers. I have no idea if there is any other platform where this could be get more attention from their side.
Plex reads the suggestions but doesn’t usually comment unless they have questions / need clarifications. That being said, they are suggestions and Plex doesn’t publicly discuss their roadmap or ETAs for future features – nor will every suggestion with a lot of votes automatically be implemented.
I think playback speed is infinitely more important than implementing an arcade…wit h 25 -ish “classics” - half of which require a trackball to play…that are also in the Internet archive.
In fact, it’s the only thing that’s stopping me from buying a plex pass.
Less communication is never a good thing.
Listening to customers is.
This feature request is not something new, or out of the realm of possibility. YouTube added it back in 2010…I know that Plex isn’t Google, but like I mentioned in my other post, there are free addons that work just as well…just on Plex apps.
I’d love to be able to replace the ‘Live TV’ tab with Sling - so I won’t have to switch between apps…but that would be a pita, and have cost quite a pretty penny.
Playback speed would not. If armatures can do this in the spare time and give it away, it must have been easy.
Edit: Plex could even subcontract out the guy. The addon now has 2 MILLION users. The demand is there. There almost 20 playback speed extensions in the Chrome store…
I need this!!!
its still crazy to me how this has not been completed yet after 7 years
I’ve been using this for a while, but lately the web playback is cr@p on my PC (others too from what I’ve read when seeking help). PLEASE add the ability to change playback speeds. Netflix and Youtube and other websites all recognize this as a desired feature.
I have three options, watch in a web browser which hangs all the time, but playback faster, watch from VLC fine, but lose the ability to interact (mark as played, etc.) or watch from a device and not be able to watch at faster speeds.
+1. This is badly needed, especially on Android.
It’s been 5 months since I last posted a reply, and I’ve checked the responses for nearly 5 months, and the demand from users is still strong, but the developers still have nothing to say, which is a very chilling practice for users.
I hope the management can think about their roadmap, and I hope the developers can really reply whether this feature will be added to the roadmap or not, instead of letting the users reply year after year
By the way, similar features, emby and jellyfin have been implemented

Make this a feature please my friends are driving me crazy!!
I wish the developers could put this in the roadmap.
Or, a simple reponse like “We are not going to to this” would be much better: at least we don’t have to wait for a false hope…
Perhaps if we keep pushing, we can at least get some developer response. This would be super handy to have!
Please add this, thanks.
I was shocked that this idea has been out her this long. I use this all the time with YouTube and can’t belive plex doesn’t give an option to speed up playback.
Has there been any official response from the Plex team on this request?
Nearly always it comes down to $$$$.
In other words, internally the question is asked “How much is it going to develop and then support?”
If the answer is a low amount $$$, then it becomes part of the product., otherwise it does not.
Occasionally, somebody internally thinks feature X is a bad idea, a dumb idea, and blocks it from seeing the light of day. I have seen it happen when working at the world’s largest software company where 1-2 people block a highly requested feature because they simply do not consider that feature is important\interesting, or they don’t like it (ie a purest that believes altering the speed is a violation of artistic principles), or have their own pet projects that they want to be done, and don’t care if feature X ever becomes part of the product… As one example, going back a few decades when computing was text-based to a console, there were hardcore programmers that hated graphical interfaces, and internally within their company they put up fierce resistance to moving to a new graphical based interface, and they had compelling arguments; higher cost, longer dev time, higher support costs, etc. I doubt that example applies in this case, but I have seen people resist highly requested features because of their personal biases.
Please
Even Netflix has this
This is probably the only feature that i dont understand why it hasnt been implemented yet. I think that if this was supported, id go and buy plex if i needed to access it.
its been eight years now
Unless way more people vote for this i doubt this will be coming ^^
Please please
How many more of us need to beg before someone does something?
