[implemented] Playback Speed

+1 I am often watching at 1.5x or 2x speed (e.g. for YouTube videos). Please add this feature. We’re about to reach 10 years of this feature request being open.

Dear Plex, we are, unfortunately, still alive!
Also, still waiting on playback speed feature!

Cheers,

P.S. I feel like a divorcee asking for my alimony. :joy:

I just transitiond to Emby because of the playback speed feature. Though I prefer Plex, I’ll stick with Emby until this feature is added.

This is just like so many other features Plex chooses to not implement or fix. Such potential is being wasted. So sad

I’ve officially cancelled my Plex Pass after six years. I still use the free Plex server, but am now using Infuse since it is a superior player (for no other reason than they heard a request for playback speed from their users and chose to act on it in less than nine years). Without being able to adjust playback speed, I have no use for Plex downloads and therefore do not need to pay for Plex Pass anymore. I suggest everyone here does the same.

Why this feature hasn’t been implemented is baffling. When I’m watching a long series to catch up on a new season I need to be able to speed it up otherwise I’m just wasting my time.

please implement this plex

The script above works great on firefox with tampermonkey! Thanks a lot!

I’m actually shocked that Plex doesn’t have this feature built-in to the smart TV app, which I only just used for the first time. I’ve been using Plex for years but in the browser on a computer hooked up to my TV, since I didn’t have a decent smart TV. Web browsers obviously have plugins to speed up video, so it was never an issue.

I watch everything at faster speed, between 1.3x and 2.5x, depending on the content. Regular speed is just too boring. It’s really unfortunate to have to keep a computer hooked up to a smart TV because the Plex app doesn’t have a really basic feature.

There are already 500 replies, yet the developer isn’t going to reply to anything

Make that 501 then. Plex, please listen to your paying users.

This feature was opened in 2014, I’m not sure if this feature will be implemented before 2044

Please also consider a setting for undoing the dumb PAL speedup (.96 speed). Actors appearing in NTSC films appear a bit hectic and high-pitched when watched on European TV sets.

Surprised playback speed control is still not implemented especially as it has been 9 years since the feature was requested and already available on the main streaming clients such as Netflix, Apple TV and PLEX alternatives which I will start to look into if this is not implemented soon.

What makes PleX decide what goes into an update and what not?
Though it seems VERY clear what we want, may be it’s not formulated correctly? …idk

Voting

Feature request voting provides us with a guide to help plan and prioritize development. As there are a variety of factors that go into this, we can’t guarantee a feature request will get implemented based on votes and posts alone.

Timelines

We don’t share timelines or our roadmap.

The meaning in these official statements is already very clear. You can suggest a feature and vote freely. They have the absolute right to ignore your feature without any reason.

but these are basics features…ridiculous having to vote to ask for them

Been using plex for the past year hoping they would add a speed toggle (up and down) in Apple TV and IOS apps, thinking it’s a basic feature that would probably be released soon. So 1 year later i decided i would actually make the efffort to sign up to this forum to request it but also thinking WOW i can’t believe im having to post in a forum to get this, i surley CAN’T be the only one who wants this basic feature.

Low and behold i find this unbelieably popular thread 9 years old asking for this feature  I added my vote, if that will help anything at all  Clearly this is THE SINGLE most in demand feature from the plex community with no other single feature trumping it in our hearts desire. But yet, here we are for some reason. Strange to the say the least.

I can use a simple video speed controller extension in Edge to achieve this when watching on my PC and it works perfectly. So Why can’t be implemented directly into Plex and it’s apps???

As a Plex developer thinking about what features to work on to make users happy, There can’t possibly be any bigger bang for buck or better use of time than working on this feature surly.

LOOOL They added skip credits which no one wants or needs but not playback speed!? Plex make some baffling decisions i must say. Absolutley baffling. I honestly think they are just laughing and trolling us all at this point.

It’s a shame this thread has turned from a feature request, to free advertising for Emby and Jellyfin and InFuse. Well at least users are getting what they want at least, even if it means migratign away from Plex. I may have to explore the same.
