Pretty sure if Plex team would be wondering "what should we add next in Plex?" and look at the voting section, trailer support just wouldn't be possible to ignore lol (655+ votes plus likes on other posts, 380+ replies and almost 12k views)

IDK how dev team works but since chrome cast was added and it was #1 on the features forums. i think we need to make some noise in there because parental controls is catching up and while i'd love to see that too, I want this feature way more. so re-post and tell your friends to post there opinions and get everyone you know, who can view this thread to view so we can increase this popular thread even more!

Consider: How does Hollywood market new releases? Trailers!
Consider: Do you want a wide net that lets lots of fish through, or a slightly narrower net that catches most everything? If people are the fish & features are the net, trailers seem like critical infrastructure!
I have a feeling they are waiting for the big 1.0 release. I have zero inside sources…just a hunch. They will want some major new feature to coincide with that release.

Not to sound blunt but this, while an interesting feature, it's far, far from a "major feature".
I know you're just rumormongering in a good hearted way, but it's just nonsense.
I want and have voted for trailer support, but I imagine it just isn't high in the priorities for the Plex team. I'm ok with this since their success has been a direct result of their roadmap decisions. I'm glad they don't use votes to change their roadmap but just as an additional data point when deciding.
I wish there was some ranking of voted features we could see, though

And even if this would be considered as minor feature, this request has been there for almost two years with the highest votes (and I think there was another tread about this before so it might be even older).
It's time... Users have been patient enough IMO. This needs to stop being postponed.

Votes change priorities, but don't derail the roadmap. Feature voting may change when a functionality will be considered (and, if ultimately discarded for a specific version, may influence when it's considered again). Feature voting doesn't dictate what the plex team does or when, though.
This means a lot of my "pet votes" don't get done, but I prefer it this way because so far the Plex team has shown, repeatedly, they have an excellent judgment which in turn has pushed Plex to the front of the race, as the standard to which everyone else is compared.
Feature voting is like lobbying. You're insisting in the hopes your wishes are put ahead. There's no promise, though.

I have voted for trailers. I was referring that it's not a major feature for the Plex team. I imagine there's no need to clarify why, since we're discussing here years after initially requesting it and it's not there yet.
For me it's a great feature (although it would never be a deal breaker). For you it's a deal breaker. For them it's a nice-to-have that some very vocal people seem to really want.

It's somewhat relevant important how voted it is (as explained in the previous paragraph). There's no entitlement earned by having asked for something a long time ago.

Same as above, there's no contract or obligation between the Plex team and forum users. It doesn't "need" to stop being postponed (assuming it's ever been and it just hasn't always been pipelined for V2 or something). Users "patience" is their own imaginary construct of rules misunderstanding this relationship with the Plex team.

As mentioned before, I wish there was a way for us to see the ranking lists with votes. In the Xojo development groups we have this and it makes it much easier for users to see what is out there and vote for features. Making it a bit more official does lend a sort of obligation on all. As it is, everyone argues their pet feature is the oldest and most voted (and the first isn't even relevant to such a discussion)
I'm just speaking from someone who has been using Plex since it originally forked from XBMC and have seen it grow over the years. I've seen trailer support promised by Elan himself in this thread or another. So unless something has changed, it is definitely on the road map. I also know that the most voted on items in this feature voting list are in no particular order: Trailers, Google Chromecast support, Parental Controls, Show who is streaming what and when, multi user mode, and playlists. Out of these all have been implemented EXCEPT Parental Controls and Trailer support. So to suggest that these votes have no effect on the roadmap is baseless. And you saying it is a minor feature request doesn't coincide with the amount of votes it has recieved. (trailers has the most votes currently at 656) I also know, from experience, that the Plex team doesn't half-ass things, they will release this feature when it's ready. The 1.0 release is totally a guess. I really want this feature and it shouldn't be that hard to implement a basic version of it. Even just a link to a youtube video that I can click on and watch. Don't the APIs they use for fetching the metadata have trailer links? As they are already fetching and matching the correct metadata with the films it wouldn't be a big step to include the trailer link too.
P.S Freaking love Plex and everything it already does, it's almost perfect, this would just be that cherry on the top!! :D
+1 on Trailer support. The naming convention supports it (in 'ignore *-trailer*' files) so I appreciate the foresight. Adding a "Watch Trailer" button in the media overview where the synopsis resides would provide another option for my family to understand what the movie is about before choosing to watch something.

It's a good thing to post in the thread going into the reasons behind the feature and some people tiresomely think adding "+1" helps at all but, really, after that initial "Like", the only thing with actual value for the Plex team, it's all mostly wasting everybody's time.
One exception, to my eyes, is a post in the thread that actually provides insight into the feature request (and which might, if "liked" enough, bring attention to the the devs as well).

Still, it bumps the tread. If the tread keeps being bumped, it allows better visibility to get more "likes" (if it really helps the feature...).
Say what you want, but if there were only likes added on first post, the tread would die behind all new requests. Imagine how far in the section it would be after around 2 years...
But I still understand your point and partially agree about annoying Plex team for an answer though.

God I hope so too... Plex has added much more complicated features during the last months than that.... (CC, Shared sync, Plex/Web 2.X, etc...)
