Why do you want a trailer for a movie you already have? It seems that this feature would only serve to benefit remote libraries.
@Ozmo I think it's been mentioned several times here but there are several reasons. When you have guests over and they are not familiar with all of your movies trailers are a great way for people to see if they want to watch something. I will add movies to my library and then my wife wants to know if she would like to see them. If you want to know more just read through this thread many people have mentioned why they would like to have this feature for movies they already own.

Would be a great Feature.

+1 for Cinema Mode with new trailers. Keep up the great work Devs.
Hi Guys, i just joined PlexPass so that i can be heard :)
I have a short list of reasonable requests that shouldn't be too complex to develop.
But from the top of my list i have the Trailers url integration.
At first i wanted to be able to play local trailer files from within my movies folders, but later on I realized that this is ridiculous.
Why would I want to maintain trailers for all my movies when every single movie trailer is already available on hd online on YouTube?.
Later I noticed that the work was already been done on the metadata side, because the urls for the movie trailers are already part of the tmdb metadata.
So basically what i'm asking is to:
- Add to "The Movie Database" agent the ability to fetch and store the trailer_url parameter.
- Add to the web management interface on the edit movie page a trailers url edit box.
- Add to the existing play popup event a "Play Movie Trailer" option if the movie has a trailer url associated.
(this popup is currently being displayed for movies that have resuming info saved)
This approach minimizes a big overhead of creating more sophisticated trailer selection method on all the existing client platforms of Plex.
Optional:
- adding the local trailer file feature on the "local media assets" agent is not something i'm against.
But it seems that we have to deal with more naming standards for trailers and debugging this feature with the community would probably take much more time from the developers.
For the rest of my feature requests i will create individual posts if they don't already exist.
Thanks for listening.

I can answer the Why question for you.
For me there are 2 main reason to maintain the trailers for your movies
1: No buffering. And possible to view trailers even if your internet connection is down for some reason.
2: You are always sure that you have good quality trailers, even for your older movies.
Videos are not stored on youtube forever.
A couple of examples (and no, they were not the only 3 movies I couldn't find trailers for, they were the first 3 I tried):
The Fast and The Furious 1: Through 3 pages of google searching I found 2 trailers: Both were ind 240p (aka ■■■■■■) and one of them was dubbed in german
Air Force One: I found several trailers, but all of them low quality
The Green Mile: Again, several trailers, none in good quality
I do agree that it is not all people that want to maintain local trailers, but I still think local trailers are the better solution, if you have the possibility to put in the work.
I don't think anyone can dissagree that if you have the option, then a locally stored 1080p trailer is superior in every way compared to a streamed trailer. Or am I missing something?
But I think people should be able to do both: use local trailers if you want and/or for the movies that you have stored trailers for and use an online solution for the movies that you don't have local trailers for.
In regards to have to deal with naming convention I don't see the problem.
-trailer. is fairly easy and is also the way XBMC does it.
I don't see how that could take up a lot of debugging time.
+1 for me, also for the Samsung app!

Nice! Some real positive buzz in there, and sounded like it going to happen real soon, shame it was 2 years ago...

Please like the original post. That's the right way to vote on features...... Also I see it coming out on PMS 1.0 ... Or right before that on plexpass for beta testing
I hope this doesn't wait for 1.0. Thats to far away.
@cmtahm , u right. but voting doesn't actually push the thread up.
posting, even a "+1" keeps the thread up and visible to vote.
besides we already voted the first post.
