Importing iTunes library from different host?

I have seen several threads on how to import an iTunes library from local disk which appears to use the exiting music files in-location while gleaning some metadata from iTunes to get you started. What I was wondering is if there is a built-in way to import a music library that’s on a mac- hosting in iTunes- onto my Plex server hosting on Linux? The music is currently local on the Mac but I would like import the library in total so a new copy of the music is made for Plex, not shared with iTunes. I know the easiest way to do this is to just rsync the music data and import it but then I lose the metadata importing features. I could also install Plex on the Mac and import it locally and then copy the music (as well as the metadata I guess?). Either option is not ideal. I would prefer to just have Plex import the music from a remote iTunes running over the LAN similarly to how iTunes allows access to its library from another instance of iTunes on another local computer.

Anyway, considering that my target Plex server is on Ubuntu, what would be the best way to import music from my iTunes library which would get the richest set of metadata? I don’t care if they remain in sync… I just want to “make the switch” with as much of my iTunes data as possible. Again, I’d rather not make permanent changes to my iTunes library as it is the “point of truth” here so if I screw something up I don’t want to pollute the source. This is why a complete copy of the entire library is preferred. Thanks.
