Noob importing iTunes library to Plex Media Server

Okay, so if I understand this correctly, importing an existing iTunes library into Plex means I must do all of the following:

  1. Have iTunes running on the same machine as Plex Media Server;
  2. Preserve the standard iTunes directory structure (i.e., C:\Users\username\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Music\etc…);
  3. Check the box for “Enable iTunes plugin” in Settings/Plugins;
  4. Correctly fill in the pathname to C:\Users\username\Music\iTunes\iTunes Library.xml;
  5. Restart PMS;
  6. Add a new library of type Music;
  7. Check the box for “Import from iTunes” on the Advanced tab before clicking the orange "Add Library button;
  8. Hope and pray…

Have I got that about right?

Like a zillion other people, I want Plex to replace iTunes as my music manager/server. But, I’d also like Plex to preserve the ratings, playlists, and album art that I spent years creating. This all seems much harder (and more unreliable) than it should be.

I am looking for some help from Plex on this. Plex can you help it does not work for me.
