In-House Channel?

I’m looking at deploying PLEX in-house. We are a video production company and I would like to use it to control our conference room display.

The question I have is this, what do I need to do to create an in-house channel that my production department could drop files in a predetermined folder on the network and then users in the conference room could select a project and view it. I would anticpate using both the windows client and server.

I’d like the videos to have some type of icon, maybe a generic one or a custom one if desired.

How easy would it be to set something like this up?

Thanks for helping a new Plexx’r

You can easily add a Section (Channels are different, I believe) that points to your network folder. You can configure Plex Media Server (PMS) to re-scan that folder on a timed basis or whenever the folder changes. On my Mac network, I can’t use the “whenever the folder changes” option. I think it might work if the folder is on the same machine as PMS, but it doesn’t work over my network. Your mileage may vary.

I’m fairly certain you can define a custom icon for the Section someone in the Section setup in PMS. Haven’t done this myself yet, but I keep meaning too.

If you’re not going to have many different Sections, it might not be important.
