When this issue first arose, I began putting the exact “originally available” date in manually. The problem is I have 6450 albums in my Plex data base and a large percentage of those albums have a xxxx-01-01 date in their “originally available” Plex metadata. Fixing all of those to correct the “originally available” dates would take a ridiculous amount of time.

I am not a programmer and would never want to show any disrespect to those who can “code.” my struggle is understanding why this particular issue cannot be fixed so Plex can recognize 2001-01-01 as having occurred in 2001 rather than 2000.

That was fixed for me with the latest public release, 1.26.2.5797.
What’s not fixed is the year in the album display.
What server version are you running?

I am running the same version as you 1.26.25797 and the year in the album display is what I am talking about. When I sort by artist by titles, the date displayed under any album with an “originally available” date of xxxx-01-01 shows in the album list as having come out the previous year.

An example would be the Beatles album “Please Please Me.” The “originally available” date on the Plex album edit screen is 1963-01-01. In the list of albums for the Beatles the album is listed as having come out in 1962.

I can manually change the “originally available date” to 1963-01-02 and the date changes to 1963 in the list of albums. The problem with this fix is that I have 6450 albums in my Plex data base. To manually change each album to reflect the correct date seems like a lot of work. Is there a reason why Plex doesn’t recognize that 1963-01-01 occurred in 1963, not 1962?

The latest news we had from the Plex staff is that it will be finally fixed in 1.27.1

As said in the prior message, Plex is aware of the bug, I wouldn’t try to fix it “by hand”,

@Tony_T does it fix up previously-wrong year fields on upgrade? Or do they need to be Refresh Metadata‘d?

That was fixed for me in the last update (I use “prefer local metadata”) without refreshing metadata
