All of my music is either WMA Lossless or FLAC files with accurate metadata tags. Every displayed date next to the album art is wrong. For example: The metadata date for a WMA file might be 1989. When I look at the “Edit” “General” tab in Plex, it lists “Originally Available” as 1989-01-01. Then the date shown next to the album art is 1988. Unfortunately the “Originally Available” field is locked and I can’t change it to try to make it display correctly. I have a FLAC file that has metadata dates of 2022. Plex lists “Originally Available” date as 1970-01-01 and then displays 1969.
Can’t this function please be fixed? Can’t PLEX just use whatever date is listed in the metadata tags? We don’t need month and day accuracy, just year please.
I’ve noticed this too with my FLAC collection. All my files are meticulously tagged. I can quickly reference this because the album title often refers to the date of the recording, e.g., 1973-06-22 - Vancouver, BC, and the year tag for the same album is 1973, but the sort year of that same album in Plex and Plexamp is listed as 1972.
I can go into the metadata on Plex and update this manually, but with thousands of albums, this is not a feasible solution.
What’s interesting is that in my experience the sort year is usually off by +/- 1 - so 1970 might sort as 1969 or 1971.
I’m currently running Plex Version 1.27.2.5929 on a Synology 418 NAS
EDIT: I updated to 1.27.2.5999 and did a force refresh of metadata for the artist, and that seemed to resolve the issue.
