I have a couple of tv shows that every time a new episode is added, the scan incorrectly matches previous episodes that i’ve already fixed. It’s getting a bit frustrating to have to fix the match every time a scan or update happens. Is there a way to somehow lock the match on items previously fixed? If not, this could serve as a feature suggestion to have the application check to see if an item has previously had the match fixed, then skip re-matching that item.
How exactly are you naming those shows that you keep getting bad matches?
Usually an established match doesn’t simply go away. Items being rematched over and over can be an indicator that your library is frequently losing content and re-adding it (e.g. if a drive is not connected or not spinning up fast enough during a scheduled/automated scan w/ automatic emptying of Plex’ trash enabled).
The files that have had the match fixed have not changed in location or name. They are also on a permanently fixed drive that is always on and available. Once an item has had it’s match fixed, it should not be re-indexed unless something changes, like it is moved, renamed or deleted. It’s a weird issue for sure.
The naming convention on those affected files is: [title].[year].[season].[episode].[resolution].[source].[format]
Do you have your server configured for automatic or scheduled scans? Settings > [Server Name] > Library
Scan my library automatically
Scan my library periodically
Do you have your server configured to empty the trash after every scan? Settings > [Server Name] > Library > Empty trash automatically after every scan
As for the naming… the example schema you shared is quite vague but could well be the cause of your mismatches (independent if they happen right away or later).
Thanks for the tips. The naming convention I have been using has worked perfectly for years now. It only became an issue in the last several months, so not sure what has changed.
If you don’t want to touch your files (which I strongly recommend) and if you want to keep Scan my library automatically enabled… make sure to disable Empty trash automatically after every scan.
Cool, thanks for the tip. Going to review the naming conventions and file directory hierarchy. There are automated processes that rip and put these files in place, so will have to dig into those to see about changing how the files are stored.
