Hopefully a simple question.
My scenario:
I currently have a playlist with a Collection of TV shows which I’ve sorted by air date.
Smart playlist = Cartoon Collection
Episode plays = Less than 2
Sort by Air date
This is working great, I’ve got a good variety of shows, all playing in air order. Once I’ve got to the end, I’ll increase the episode plays = less than 3, and so on.
This week I’ve ripped and added 31 seasons of The Simpsons to Plex, marked them as played (play count = 1), however for The Simpsons to ‘catch up’ with the playlist, I would need to increase the playcount = 2 for ~20 seasons.
Is there a way to do this via the UI, DB or even a script?
I’d ideally like to avoid having to set a playing going to ‘watch’ 20 seasons?
Have you considered adjusting your playlist to use the Last Played date… e.g. Episode Last Played – Is Before – <date when you started the current watch cycle>? Might be easier and it’ll leave the play count untouched so you can at some point start filtering out shows you already watched 10+ times
Edit: if you want to stick to your approach… you might be able to pull this off by marking the show as played a number of times.
Thanks Tom, I’m currently working around it by adding Air date is after 2009-09-01. This doesn’t pull in the first 20 seasons.
It does however mean that on my next loop through the playlist (once I’ve removed the aired before), the first 20 seasons will only have a play count of 2, and not 3.
I’m hoping 1 day that the smart playlists get a little smarter, and the play count will become very important (to me ;))
I can mark as played multiple times? How do I do this?..I only see Mark as Unplayed?..I didn’t realise I could mark them as played multiple times
I had been referring to Episode Last Played – not the Air date of the episode…
As for marking a show as played multiple times… well… you can mark it as unplayed and then as played again and again. I believe this will give you an entry in your play history and should therefore also apply to the play count.
As for the the ‘played again and again’, this doesn’t work for me.
I’ve just marked the entire 286 episodes as Unplayed, selected season 1, marked as played, and only have the option to ‘Mark as Unplayed’
Edit: Ok, I worked around it.
I marked all as unplayed, then played (from the TV show view) so all episodes = play count of 1.
I then marked S20 - S31 as unplayed (from the season view)
(Back to the TV shows view), I could either mark all as played or unplayed.
Marked all as played. S01 - S20 now = 2 plays, and S21 - S31 now = 1 play
