I find that quite a few shows I watch using the MacOS Plex client have very low volume, and if I’m watching on the Mac are almost inaudible, sometimes. I’ve played with the audio settings, but the normalised/boost setting makes things quieter, not louder.
If I play exactly the same audio file across the LAN, but using VLC instead of the Plex client, the volume is plenty loud enough (in fact, with the Mac sound level set to ‘full’, VLC’s volume set to 70%, it’s a bit too loud). But it’s really inconvenient to have to drop out of Plex and into VLC for the odd show that has lower sound levels.
Is it possible to get a ‘preamp’ or ‘base volume’ setting, so we can jack the sound up? Or alternatively are there any MacOS utilities that will boost my volume that people have tried with success (since I don’t expect Plex to fix this anytime soon, given the number of threads on the subject (e.g., Playback Volume - widespread issue).
BTW, this seems to be a Mac-only issue, as I have no such problems on my FireTV or my Galaxy S7 when watching shows.
