My server has a green padlock and Remote Access says fully accessible, yet my Mac laptop and two PS5’s both say Indirect connection. If i connect on the laptop using the IP and port of the sever then all is good, but obviously can’t do this on the PS5. How do i get rid of this Indirect connection hurdle? Is it something to do with changing the DNS of the PS5?
Are those devices in different subnets inside your home network?
DNS should not get in the way while the devices see each other inside your home network – then again… there’s little harm in trying a known good DNS to rule out some weird behavior.
I’ve not set anything ‘special’ with regards to a different subnet (wouldn’t know how to if honest) but they are behind a network switch and various extended ethernet cables - would that have any effect?
I’ve tried one of the PS5’s this morning though using the Google DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) and it’s worked! The picture on a 4k and 1080 file was pin sharp, as it should be. The 4k one did buffer though but seems that’s common at the moment with the Plex app.
I’ll change the other PS5 today and hopefully see the same result.
Some network components will automatically create their own subnets (though unintended by the user). This can be e.g. WLAN APs or extenders which run their own DHCP server, assigning an own set of local IP addresses to the devices connected to them instead of relying on the router’s DHCP (just to name one example). I’ve also seen routers assigning separate subnets to their wired and wireless network adapters (not to speak of some predefined guest networks on routers).
Just got home and tried the second PS5. Same again, changed the DNS and Plex works exactly as it should. Pin sharp picture. No idea why it cured it but it has so that’s me happy!
