I’m having an odd issue where some of the clients on my plex server are having a direct connection while others do not (including some of my own devices inside my own network).
A bit of context to my situation:
I have fully accessible remote access outside my network.
I have manually specified a 32400 as my public port.
My server is on a static ip of 192.168.1.101.
DNS is set to cloudflare on both IPv4 (1.1.1.1 primary and 1.0.0.1 secondary) and IPv6 (2606:4700:4700::1111 primary and 2606:4700:4700::1001 secondary)
I do not use a VPN.
My current setup is a modem with router functionality set to bridge mode, along with my primary mode.
My server is connected as follows: Modem → PMS. It is not connected to the router which is as follows: Modem → Router
I have read the following guides on the community forums: First, Second, Third
What I don’t understand is why I can’t get a direct connection for all of my clients, including myself? Why do some clients have a direct connections while others don’t and how can I fix it?
For reference, Shang Chi snippet is streaming locally.
If you see indirect inside your own network it’s either due to a fractured network (i.e. more than one router) or due to a misfiring “DNS rebinding protection” in your DNS resolver (which also usually sits in your router).
Scroll down to “why doesn’t it work?” in here: https://support.plex.tv/articles/206225077-how-to-use-secure-server-connections/
Thanks for the response. Regarding the DNS rebinding protection solutions,
ISP Settings: I have already switched my DNS configurations to Cloudflare’s
Modem/Router Settings: I’m currently using TP-Link’s AXE5400 which currently does not support DD-WRT, which I would then assume does not support dnsmasq. I am also not using pfSense.
The above makes me wonder how this was ever working at all in the first place.
Did you switch one of these devices into “passthrough” or “access point” mode?
I’ve set my modem to bridge mode and connected the router to it via the WAN port; therefore, any devices connected to the modem still receives an internal ip address. I don’t know if this constitutes an “access point” or “passthrough”, however.
That doesn’t sound right. I think you must connect all your devices to the router, to ensure that they are all within the same network.
Don’t connect anything to the modem, except the router.
