Infinite buffering when opening files on Nvidia SHIELD player (and other issues)

First Tests with the new Build:

Buffering issues seemed to be better, but I had issues with autoplay next episode.
The countdown started, but then it just showed the black screen of the last episode.
A manual “next episode” click loaded fine though.

Build working fine for me so far. Have not managed to get it to infinite spin.

EDIT: Spoke to soon. The issue is still there. At first I played many Movies and TV Shows all with varied encoding ~ 10 of them - including AC3, EAC3, DTS all worked perfectly.

Then I go into my Demo Videos - a few of these play, but it seems to get bogged down after a few of them and then infinite spins occus again for every video in that directory after that - videos that just played fine are no longer playing. These Demo videos are encoded with Dolby Atmos (True HD) and are all < 5 min in length.

Next, without restarting plex - If I go back to videos and tv shows - these also start to spin infintely even though the were playing fine before. I’ve managed to crash plex as well a few times by doing this process as well.

I believe the above is different behaviour to the general release version (not the beta). On the Beta - at least when I re-start plex it seems to be fine before I start playing those Dolby Atmos Demo Videos - then is seems to go downhill.

+1 from me too.
My shield (2017) has become unusable as a it’s a roulette wheel whether something will play or not…

I’ll try this new test build layer this week if u can work out the sideload.

Is there anything I can do to help?

I have this issue too. I notice it appears to only be an issue when I wake my Shield from sleep and the Plex app opens itself automatically to the last show I was watching. I have the TV theme music set to play in the menu. Whenever I wake it up like this it’s silent.

When I press my Back button to go from the Series folder to the elevated menu and then I press select and go straight back in, the theme song will play and 99% of the time the episode will stream. If the theme doesn’t play then I know I have to exit and force quit the app and go back in. Unfortunately this happens way too often but force quitting appears to fix it.

I also notice the latest update of server or Android app has killed casting completely. I’m unable to cast anything from my mobile to my Google Nest Hub. Was working fine last week, I’ve tried rebooting my server, my phone and my Nest Hub to no avail and there are no updates available either.

You could try this test build to see if it resolves your issue with the infinite spinner:

Is there anything contained in these versions for this issue that isn’t already in the Google Play Beta channel version? I see the build numbers here are 8.27.x, with the Beta being 8.26.x

After joining the Beta last just over a week ago, that version has reduced the number of infinite spinner issues I’ve been seeing (Shield 2017, non-Pro).

The 8.26 build solved my problems. I gonna test the 8.27 build. I will report back if it is still works. Thank you.

Edit: @sixones latest build, subtitle menu isn’t working. Tried different video content.

Shield 2019 Pro

There is little difference, this new build applies a fix that was used for a similar Chromecast on Google TV issue. If v8.26 solves your problem the above build won’t change anything.

If v8.26 didn’t solve your playback problems, then this test build might solve them.

That’s great as a resolution for the Shield issues, what about Chromecast to Google Nest devices that broke after last week’s Server update? Is the problem with my Galaxy S21 that I’m using to cast from, or is it the Google Nest Hub or is it the Server?

Because when I go into Plex Dash I can see the Server > Chromecast with a green arrow but on the Nest Hub it just infinitely spins and it just disappears from Plex Dash.

Ok, after having Trouble with 8.26 fix, 8.27 fix is working great! Skipped around through a bunch of videos and didn’t have any spinning issue. Thanks for fixing!

The only issue that did occur was the freeze up at the start for a number seconds, while the audio rolls and the video is frozen as documented here:

EDIT: The infinte spinning started happening again eventually. I had to force stop Plex and restart. Which fixed it.

Just adding to the list. I have a 2017 shield tv, and this started happening a few months back.
I have tried everything to fix it including resetting the shield. Nothing works other than transcoding to 20mbps which defeats the point.

Ok so my Shield is only having infinite spinning when trying to resume playing a partially watched episode, I used to get a message saying do you want to continue or start from the beginning. I don’t get that message anymore.

If I go and play an episode from the start it streams straight away.

Ok further to this, the exact same problem is causing the casting problem!

Earlier I mentioned I had noticed casting Plex to my Google Nest Hub had broken recently too. I use my Android S21+ to initiate the cast. Plex mobile then hands the cast straight from server to my Nest Hub. If the episode is partially started, casting fails and I get infinite spinning on my Nest Hub, if I tell it to play episode from beginning no problem.

So given the issue is occuring with Shield and the latest Android mobile update and is only related to resuming partially watched episodes, does the problem actually lie in the latest server update which I think rolled out about a fortnight ago because that’s when my issues all started.

I was finally able to solve the issue by switching to Emby. No issues there.

This build does not display the picture of the movie cast. Why on Android you cannot select a cast name and get a list of shows they appear in like Apple TV?

It’s a missing feature which the platform team are looking into, I don’t have anymore information on when this will happen though.

Can you take a screenshot of the missing images problem?

This build has the same issue.

This test version, i see the loading circle and after stop and play sometimes it will play and the other times i see the spinning circle. I have 2 Shield TV Pro 2019.

The testversion before this one, also keeping loading but dolby atmos was activated on mt tv.

Is there a way to download the PlexForAndroid-8.26.0.28838-bcd4f257-Arm64v8aGooglePlayStdExo.apk? This one was working perfect, but someone over here deleted the apk.
