Initial feedback on the new experience

No idea if this is the best way to provide feedback on the initial release of the new player or not.

My first impressions:

  • App does not remember that I’ve previously switched to Browse view in a Library when switching between them. It always defaults me back to Recommended when changing libraries. - Fixed, then reverted and finally fixed again
  • Shuffle button is gone from Movie libraries. I saw you can sort the library by Random now but this isn’t the same as punching shuffle and getting a random playlist that will play the next movie automatically after the first is finished. Seeing the sort order also ruins the surprise of what you’re going to watch. - Fixed
  • A Details view under Folder view is missing. The only view available is thumbnails with truncated filenames.
  • I cannot delete content from within the App anymore. I have to go to the server to do it. I would typically delete movies directly from my AppleTV after watching them and entire seasons of TV shows from the iOS App. - Fixed
  • With h265 enabled for Transcoding on my Plex server, playback on my iPad Air (M1 CPU) was 15s of play followed by 10s of buffering non-stop. Switching back to h254 transcoding solved the problem. A friend using the old iOS App did not have this problem on their iPhone 16 when I had h265 enabled.
    – Had another friend test with an iPad Pro using the old iOS App, no problem.
    – Same friend tried again, iPhone 14 with new iOS App, non-stop buffering
    – I tried with my iPhone 13 and the new iOS App, non-stop buffering
    – Source material was AV1 being transcoded to h256 using a Intel UHD Graphics P630 built into a Xeon E-2286M

This issue was brought up multiple times in the feedback forums and still can’t believe they haven’t fixed it! It can’t be that difficult…

In their defense. This is an annoyance and not a show stopping bug.

Hopefully now that release date crunch is over they’ll do a QoL sweep for smaller bugs like these.

If plex employees, devs and their programmers are not embarrassed about this roll out they should be.
I have already seen a number of things mentioned that have been reported yet have not been fixed.

I’m sure many of them are. But they have VC investors dictating certain things, as well as possibly licensing agreements that also dictate certain things. For those employees that do care, its very likely a “go along or get out” environment.

Remember, many if not most of the complaints are about the PMS side of things. The revenue-generating pieces are more developed. There’s a reason for that.

Note: This is obviously supposition on my part. Maybe everybody from the Founder on down loves the new app. I know they have to SAY they do no matter what, so we’ll never be able to really know for sure, but its possible.

You are exactly right, no doubt 5 years from now personal libraries will be gone.

In case the Plex Devs only see new posts, I am editing my original post as I find new items.
