Initial Scanning of Folders

I’m a new plex user. Started the server up 3 days ago. It’s working great. However, My music collection has been scanning since day one…and counting. Who knows when this will finish?

I suggest that perhaps there is a way to do a quick initial scan, maybe leave out all the extra info that slows the initial scan down, then over time slowly pull in the other data for the music/tracks.

This would give a new user access to playing all of their music without having to wait god knows how long for the full folder scan to finish. At the very least… maybe add a note, indicator, status that shows where we are in the scan so we can get an idea of how much longer there is left. Something like 50/100 folders or 10000/100000 tracks… would be nice.

I have over 1TB music… I dread to think how long this will take.

Ok so I found the issue to be some Various artist and Album folders. In addition a various Classical, bluegrass… I moved these folders and the scan is going very well.

Still, no reason plex can’t deal with these folders without stalling out. I suggest there be an indicator like above and that Plex deal with Mixed album/artist folders. Sometimes you just want a misc folder. I’m going to add each of these folders one by one after the main scan is done and see what I can do with them as a seperate music folder source.
