Initiate Commercial Detect and Skip Manually

Long story short, Plex had to rescan my entire TV library recordings and now I have lost all of my detected commercials. It identified Intros and Credits, but not commercials. Not sure if Library Scan is supposed to also process commercials.

Any way for me to get Plex to run commercial analysis for the LIbrary?

I’m not sure whether it triggers commercial scanning, but try clicking on the 3 dots next to the library and then Analyze. This triggers intro/credits detection on my library but I don’t have any recorded commercials to test with.

Also worth checking it’s still enabled correctly with these instructions: https://support.plex.tv/articles/115003944134-removing-commercials/

Using Commercial Detection on Regular TV Libraries

It’s also possible to enable the commercial detection to run for content in a regular TV library that was not recorded with the Plex DVR. You might be interested in that if you use a different DVR system. To enable the commercial detection in such a situation, you need to:

  1. Have a Plex DVR set up and configured on your Plex Media Server
  2. In the DVR settings, the Remove Commercials preference must be set to Detect commercials and mark for skip
  3. Edit the regular TV library and set the Ad detection preference under the Advanced tab to For all items

@OttoKerner I did all that, Do I go and execute the Comskip.exe or is there another method to actually start the background process?

That’s done automatically during the server maintenance period.
Which should be scheduled to hours where you and your users are doing other things than watching video. So as not to distract server power while you are actually using Plex.

i’m also struggling with trying to force commercial detection to be run after jiggling some files around into a library that has it set for ‘all files’.

tried analyze; tried removing library directory, cleaning/optimize databases, and then re-adding library folder, etc. haven’t tried deleting library completely since that’s too disruptive and would force a rescan of way too much.
