Attempting to upgrade PMS from Plex 1.5.4 to 1.6.0 on Synology DS716+ [DSM 6.0.2-8451 Update 7 - 64bit] using the ‘manual install’ button on DSM ‘package center’ [the usual way I upgrade plex] - after selecting the Intel 64bit file I just downloaded [PlexMediaServer-1.6.0.3698-7fe404e94-x86_64.spk] & clicking next, I get the error ‘The package does not contain a digital signature’. Repeating download [just in case!] gets the same error
I tried the same with the Intel 32bit file PMS 1.6.0 and ‘package center’ accepts it - is the Intel 64bit package signed properly? My existing PMS is 32bit & I have stopped it before attempting the upgrade
Not sure if related to DS716+ running DSM 6.0.2 rather than the latest 6.1.1 - doing this as I read several horror stories when others have upgraded DSM [not then booting] & want to leave this a bit longer. The plex download button indicates ‘Intel - 64bit (DSM +6.0)’ so I though I would be ok
NP. Thanks for confirming it wasn’t me going mad…at least on this issue!
I’ll probably wait a bit and hope the engineers get their spanners in order i.e. re-issued a properly signed 64bit PMS 1.6.0 ‘.spk’ or until 1.6.1
I assume if I install 32bit PMS 1.6.0, I can then upgrade to 64bit 1.6.0 ontop i.e. there doesn’t have to be a later version to change the bitness? Maybe useful to do a comparison of CPU utilisation when playing to see what difference the 64bit makes
And, in theory, could I switch bitness of PMS back from 64bit to 32bit by installing the 32bit package i.e. switching to 64bit is not a one way trip [without doing a PMS uninstall]
“madness” is measured in degrees and, so far, you’re being pretty cool about it >:)
1.6.1 just popped out due to an emergency for Windows. It’ll be 1.6.2 at this point.
I am running the as-released 1.6.0 without issue. I I’m willing to run it in production, I hope that says something?
In theory you can switch between versions. Remember, Synology does require us to uninstall packages to perform a downgrade. That said, and because the binaries are in the @appstore with your data on /volume1, it’s 100% safe to remove the package. Your library will be there when you reinstall and start whichever version you install. (just don’t back down too far… database compatibility reasons)
LOL - though I think you are going mad too if you think I’m ‘cool’
As well as the security side, the signing passing is an additional check that the file hasn’t been corrupted somewhere in the processing e.g. during download [probably an old school issue]
Anyway, I’ll see if I can take a look tonight - off to real madness…work :#
Yup, 1.6.1 x86_64 bit works now [‘PlexMediaServer-1.6.1.3722-4955e31cf-x86_64.spk’ now contains ‘syno_signature.asc’] & tested to my LG TV [Plex client]
I was lazy and went straight to PMS 64bit without first testing it with 1.6.1 32bit - it does seem a bit faster as I tried it on an x265 file which previously seemed on the limit [as it played ok but paused every 5-10mins] and it now plays without pausing [on my test - NAS processor (quad core) 'top’s at ~375%]
So life can go back to it’s normal ab-normal until it’s time to spine up & update DSM itself…
Enjoy yourself too…even though it hard to at work [think friday, beeeeeer]
I just got off the phone with Synology USA Tech Support. They have no idea what is happening with DSM 6.1.1 and whether it’s stable / ok to use or anything
1 was never able to download it (got permission denied errors)
Later in the day, it had been removed from Download Center entirely.
I suggest we all hold back on DSM 6.1.1 until one of us has had the opportunity to see where it stands.
DSM 6.1-15047 is the latest showing for my DS716+ - I just downloaded it [using DSM Control Panel / Update & Restore / DSM Update] but I am not going to apply it [you’d have to be barking mad]
Less people getting issues later but, if you are in the unlucky club, the consequences are pretty dire i.e. NAS doesn’t boot, hassle to fix & seemingly SFA help from Synology hindrance desk
