Installed fresh Windows 10 on a new SSD, how do I access servers on old HDD?

I opened Plex server from my old hard drive, and it threw me back to square one. How do I get it to pull from my old data?

Plex server doesn’t run on hard drives. It runs on computers.
If you swapped the system drive of your Windows computer, (and you did not copy the contents of the old system drive to the new drive,) then you removed the location where Plex server stores all it’s information about your media collection.

I assume that your actual media files are not stored on the system hard drive, right? I will assume this for the rest of the procedure. Just make sure that all other hard drives get the same drive letters as they had while they were connected to the old computer.

You need to copy two things from the old system hard drive:

  1. the complete Plex data folder
  2. the contents of the Plex branch of the old Windows registry

Copying the Plex data folder is straight forward (apart from the fact that the Users folder is set to be “hidden” by default).

Accessing the old registry and exporting the relevant parts of it might be challenging, if you’ve never done it before.
