Installing Plex on a Bazzite Linux distro

This guide walks through installing Plex Media Server on the Bazzite Linux distro using Distrobox (Fedora 40 base).
Built the hard way so you don’t have to.

Key Features:

  • Works fully inside a Distrobox container (no root conflicts with Bazzite’s immutable system)
  • Configurable media paths mounted at /media
  • Launchable with a desktop shortcut (opens Plex in your preferred browser)
  • Stable on v1.42.2.10156 with working access from Roku and local web clients

If providing server logs, please do NOT enable verbose logging—only debug logging should be turned on.

I would recommend using Quadlet instead of Distrobox. It’s even in the official Bazzite documentation.
