here this tutorial don´t work… after reboot nothing happens
Hi there,
Perhaps we can help?
What’s not working for you?
The whole tutorial, or just the bit about starting the PMP desktop automatically on boot?
dmonds
PMP itself works… i have problems to autostart PMP
i use this tutorial to install PMP:
So PMP works after the desktop starts?
How do you currently start PMP, via a menu option or starting via a command line in a terminal?
Can I assume you have autologon set?
Rather than building from source, anyone tried the AppImage / Flatpak under Raspbian?
I’ve not, but taking a quick look. Are they x64 only pkg?
You have a fridge filled with Guiness in your bedroom? Nice.
i use an terminal command
plexmediaplayer --fullscreen --tv
Can you confirm that you have autologin set and the desktop fires up automatically.
I am asking if you need to start the desktop manually on boot?
Reason = I had similar issues getting PMP to autostart.
The solution for me was to enable autologin and desktop start on boot.
I then followed the instructions by @lithophone and it all worked perfectly.
Be extra careful to ensure you include the exact syntax for the commands…including the punctuation symbols…these have tripped me up in the past.
Hope this helps
Yes, the desktop starts by itself. The user also logs in by himself.
I will test it again and pay special attention to the spelling.
If you just copy and paste, you won’t need to worry about the spelling.
okay, I think I have found the solution. In the previous attempt I worked via SSH, this time I did locally. It works
Nice guide, thank you for it. How would the process be different if one would use the 64-bit Raspberry OS? I can follow the guide well but I am not skilled enough to go soloing.
These instructions worked very well for my Pi 4 installation. I was able to connect to my Plex Server on my network. The only thing I was unable to do was access my OTA guide from PMP on my Pi. The “Guide” option appears when I use the Plex Web App and am able to live stream channels, but there is no button when using PMP. Is this expected?
Oh yeah that’s sadly expected. They’ve never put the OTA guide into the PMP app, only in the Web App and others like Chromecast.
FWIW, I went and bought a “Chromecast with Google TV” (for the remote) in the end
Unfortunately from what I can tell I can’t use the HDMI-CEC with the Web App otherwise I would consider using it as an option. I’m probably going to have to get a Fire TV Stick.
I never got HDMI-CEC working with this either, my post above:
Ended up giving up on the Plex on a Pi completely and brought a newer TV with plex built in, and left it at that.
Long long time user of Rasplex, but gave up when the updates stopped.
This looked promising, but didn’t quite make it to be fully usable.
Good move. I have used raspi, but only in very specific circumstances… in an office where we needed to control 8-10 monitors in which case the savings was spread across 10 instances. For a single system is not worth it I use a full fledged box.
I think I’ve cracked what is missing for PMP and CEC (at least in my case). I’ve installed all the libcec I could find, and the list I ended up with was:
libcec-dev, libcec-platform-dev, libcec-platform1v5, libcec4-dbgsym, libcec4, python-libcec-dbgsym, python-libcec
Then rebuilt pmp (deleted contents of build directory, then did the “cmake …” through “sudo make install” again)
And magically I have PMP with working HDMI-CEC
I’m sure I’ve installed more that needed, but even on a small sd card, the extra MB doesn’t bother me, so not going to sit here and add and remove parts to find which are and are not needed.
Now if only I knew why PMP was so sluggish (keyboard/mouse or HDMI-CEC) and has screen tearing.
Thanks I’ll try this tonight!
