Hi all.
I was wondering if this one is powerfull enough to handle 4K h264 transcoding?

I have the generation before that (Intel NUC mini PC kit NUC6i7KYK (Intel Core i7)) and it plays everything when streaming to a Shield connected to a Samsung 4k.
Thanks @spikemixture
What about BOXNUC7I5BNK ?
I see that @ChuckPA has made a guide…
So be fine ? What about hvec?
What is most CPU intensive regarding transcoding hvec ( is that H.265?) or h.264
HEVC = H.265
And yes, HEVC requires a shedload more cpu power, just for decoding.
You’d be best advised to not use it unless all your clients support direct-streaming HEVC.
Its a Samsung Tizen TV ( Qled 2017 )
Supported formats:
Is the Samsung your only Plex client?
I am not fully up to date what formats this one can play
https://support.plex.tv/articles/203810286-what-media-formats-are-supported/
Well I have two 2 sets
1: Curved QLed TV 2017
2: Cuverd 2014 4K… Dont support h265 I think, not so important… Most important is my living room
What about subtitles then? Would it cause problem ?
Yes, subtitles will cause transcoding in many cases.
So that is a big factor. You need to absolutely avoid subtitle formats other than SRT.
And even with SRT you can’t avoid transcoding under all circumstances, unfortunately.
Hmm its states that it has to be MP4 format - or it wont work?
Im so confused.
OK thanks for your answers Otto
Looking up the CPU in the BOXNUC https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i5-7260U+%40+2.20GHz
While it can handle HEVC/H.264 (1 stream), it can’t be effectively used as a server for multiple streams. the Intel Core i7-7567U, is the better processor choice.
Yea I know mate but i read your guide - its the same NUC . You wrote i5 could handle 4K HDR transcode 1 stream , but is that with subs ?
As I stated in the other thread…
I did not write the Guide. @grogster and the referenced discussion thread, which you’re also participating in, authored the guide. The references to the ‘development thread’ and the author is at the bottom of the post.
I posted it in Linux Tips for them. Please ask them regarding technical details but I see no reason why subtitles would be a problem as a player.
It’s not my guide and I’d appreciate questions of the hardware being directed to the referenced thread and authors.
Ok Thanks Chuck .
