Intel NUC with Plex Embedded upgrade options

Server Version#: 1.24.1.4931

Hi,

My server stats are below. I currently have 2 samsung TV’s that run plex in my family/living rooms, however in my media room i have an Intel NUC (NUC5PPYH) running the now obsolete Plex Embedded via ethernet connection and with pasthrough audia via HDMI to my Pioneer Reciever.

The NUC is now struggling to handle the newer 4K media i have been updating my library with (constant buffering no matter how much i tinker with the server settings) and is due to be replaced. I love Plex Embedded, simply because when you turn it on it just loads, so my not so technical savvy family are able to use it easily.

So, MY QUESTION is, what is the best replacement for the NUC? Ideally something that is 100/1000 LAN connection, needs to just load into plex when powered on, needs to output digital audio to my reciever for passthru and is obviously ready for 4K video…

I did think about getting another NUC, but im just stuck with using the embedded plex which i love but is no longer officially supported… ideas please???

Cheers,
Josh

Depending how tech savvy you are you could grab a odroid n2+ and install openelec with a Plex kodi plug-in

Hi Ben,

I’m not as tech savvy as i used to be… know enough that i can follow basic instructions…

Where could i see some info on this setup??

The Shield Pro should be in consideration.

Have you tried the new HTPC (windows) application?

@pl_5309 , i did see the newly released HTPC version. I assume this would require i load Windows 10 onto my existing NUC then install??? But can it boot directly to the plex app??

You would have to configure Windows to either autologin or no login and then HTPC in the startup folder.

Something like this??
