I thought if the subs were being burned (as opposed to playing directly) I’d see a thing saying they were being burned.

Not on the Plex Dashboard. Tautulli shows if the subs are burned into the video stream.

It is also visible in the log files:

Would the general consensus be to use a dedicated GPU instead of quick sync?

Intel QSV is quite capable. The 1050 Ti may not provide better performance.

25 Simultaneous Hardware Transcodes on the NUC10i7FNH

Wanted to share a recent success. As the subject line says - 25 simultaneous hardware transcodes of videos with an average bitrate of ~10mbps encoded in h.264 with aac audio, on-the-fly transcoded to an average bitrate of ~2mbps.
