I’m curious as to the minimum number of episodes required in a series for Plex to detect the intro. I have 1 TV show with one episode and Plex didn’t find the intro on that. I also have a few shows with only 2 episodes each and there is no intro detected in either of those.
I did see the server actually analyzing the shows and just in case I invoked the analyze option myself to do it manually but there was no joy.
If the minimum number of episodes required is above 2, will it be able to pick it up or should I invoke the analyze on the whole season (as it is at the time) to detect from all available episodes.
Episode detection can only work on the whole season, as all it can do is comparing the audio track of episodes to each other. If there are parts of the audio track which are the same in several episodes, they are considered “the intro”.
So it should be evident that it cannot work on a single episode.
I am actually not sure what the minimally required no. of episodes is. It might be indeed >2.
I figured that 1 episode wouldn’t provide enough data so that wasn’t a problem for me. I was just curious to find out the minimum in case I have to wait for a long time before I can get that.
At this point I’m assuming it’s 3 if my experience before I had a Plex Pass is anything to go by. I have the option to play the show’s theme if I open it and I would only hear the theme if I had 3 or more episodes. My assumption until now was that it would download the theme from IMDB or the TVDB or somewhere. Based on this same assumption, I thought it would use the downloaded theme to find where it occurs in the file.
I can confirm now that I have a few more episodes of said shows is that at 3 episodes, the Skip Intro button becomes active, so the minimum episode count for that feature is 3.
