Introducing Vortexo, a new Plex client for Apple TV

Hi everyone,

I wanted to introduce Vortexo, a new third-party Apple TV client for Plex that I’ve been building.

Vortexo is focused on making Plex browsing feel fast, visual, and native on tvOS. The app is built around large artwork, Continue Watching, library discovery, detailed movie/show pages, Apple TV Top Shelf support, and a calm living-room interface designed for the Siri Remote.

One of the bigger goals is merged browsing: Vortexo can bring your local Plex server and shared Plex servers into one combined Home experience, so Continue Watching, discovery rows, and library content can appear together instead of feeling split across different servers.

Some of the main features include:

  • Plex library browsing and playback
  • Merged local and shared Plex servers with source selection
  • Continue Watching on the Home screen and Apple TV Top Shelf
  • Movie, show, season, episode, and music detail pages
  • Plex Watchlist support
  • Plex Discover search and discovery rows
  • Plex Home profile switching
  • Audio/subtitle preferences, autoplay, and skip options
  • Optional Vortexo Plus features, including merged servers, source selection, best-source playback, Vortexo Server, and trailers

Vortexo does not provide or host any media. It connects to your own Plex account, servers, and libraries.

The app is now available on the Apple TV App Store. Going forward, regular releases will be published through the App Store instead of TestFlight, though TestFlight may still be used occasionally for early testing.

I’d love feedback from Plex users, especially around merged-server browsing, Apple TV navigation, library layout, metadata display, Top Shelf behavior, and playback.

Thanks to everyone who tries it or shares feedback.

First real issue I see is I can’t seem to find a way to just browse my libraries, all I see are the home rows. Not sure if that’s locked down in the $20 fee, but it really shouldn’t be.

It is not avaliable here in Denmark and the Beta is full:man_shrugging:

Does it use the standard AVPlayer?

Surely gotta give some credit to the actual person who coded this app? @l984_451
