Hi. I’m looking for clarification on accounts for my family, all of whom are iOS users.
We have Plex Pass. I “own” the only current account, and manage the server in our basement. I’m using Plex fine, and have no issues. I’d like to give my wife and two kids access. We are a 100% Apple family; iPhones, iPads, and Apple TV’s all over the place. Most of our media is consumed at home, but some will be elsewhere (kids at friends’ houses, or on vacation).
The Managed Users look perfect, except for the description “Managed users are only available when signed in with an account in your home.” My reading is that kills all options for the wife and kids while not at home, and that’s a dealbreaker.
The iOS apps require, I think, either a Plex Pass account or the $5 one-time in-app purchase. I suspect one option is to pay the $5 and create separate (not managed) Plex accounts. They would not be Plex Pass accounts, but could access our family server, and I could handle rating restrictions on that server’s sharing setup. This “feels” wrong to me, that for our Plex Pass I should be able to set this up for the family without additional cost, but I’ll deal with it. $5 won’t break the bank.
Do I have that right? Is there a better way to set this up?
