Is plex pass per user

Hi all,

I subscribed and I want my wife and family to start using plex but I don’t want to give them my account for security reasons (they simply can break stuff).
I noticed that you can create a managed user. That does not solve the login issue at all as they have to login to plex somehow, right?
If I create a plex account for each family member, I am under impression, that they won’t have a plex pass functionality and plex apps will work with limitations (1 minute seriously?).
That leaves me three choices:

  1. Buy an app for every device or buy plex pass for all my family
  2. Buy a plex pass for every user
  3. Let them use my account
Is that correct or I am missing something?

P.S. I wonder why you need managed users, as you can’t use for library access and have to specify the registered account anyway… Local access? You ask for a registered account for local access too

Two ways to handle what you want:
Us the Home Feature, which allows you to create a Managed User, or you can link an existing Plex account (see more later). I believe during the setup process, you might be asked to tie a PIN number to your account, or you can do so later. This affords all of your devices in your home a single login, where the user can select their account from a presented list which includes yours (similar to other streaming services like Netflix). If they try to access yours, they will be prompted to enter a PIN. The only thing they can screw up from most client devices is your watch history. They could do more damage in the web interface.
The other way which I use frequently is to have them sign up for a Plex account of their own at Plex.tv (or you can do this yourself, but it requires a unique email address). Once the account has been created, you can invite them as friends using the email address tied to their accounts. They then have their own individual interface separate from yours. A little more setup, but also a bit more tidy.

Either way, there shouldn’t be a need for anyone else to pay anything. PlexPass ties to the owner/administrator of the Plex Server and most features port over to the users with permissions. Live TV may be another animal, as I’ve not tested that one with anyone outside the Plex Home.

I actually use both. Plex Home for the girlfriend and I, and the friends feature for family and friends. To date, none of these family and friends has paid a dime for service.

Thanks, will try dedicated plex acconts.
