Dear Plex Team,
Context: I’m completely blind and rely on screen readers to use computers. For several years, I’ve happily used my Plex server to stream music, shows, and films to my devices without issue. However, following a recent revamp to the Plex iOS app, music library management and playback have been moved entirely to PlexAmp.
While I’ve heard many great things about PlexAmp, I’ve unfortunately never been able to use it, as it isn’t accessible with VoiceOver, Apple’s built-in screen reader. This means I’m effectively barred from conveniently listening to music on my Plex server via iOS.
What I find particularly curious is that the main Plex app has clearly received significant attention to accessibility—it’s very usable with VoiceOver, even after the redesign. I’ve even noticed changelog entries referencing accessibility improvements. It seems clear that the team developing Plex for iOS is aware of screen reader compatibility and the importance of inclusive design. For that reason, I believe it’s a real shame that the same care hasn’t been extended to PlexAmp.
I’m writing to highlight this issue in the hope that it can be addressed. I’d love to see PlexAmp become accessible, so that all users—regardless of vision—can enjoy the full range of Plex’s features. I’d be perfectly happy to go back to managing my music in the Plex app, but I’m not expecting the redesign to be undone of course.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
