Use „old player“ works on Apple TV and IPadOS, else it buffers and loads the first frame but won’t start with direct play.
Still no audio in beta 5 from dvd sources, but audio works from blu-ray sources.
Old player won’t work with direct play and my cpu is too slow to convert, so I’m basically unable to use plex.
VLC via SMB appears to be a good workaround.
There’s usually no harm in disabling Direct Play. It doesn’t require the video to be transcoded, only extracted and repackaged (remuxed). Even exceptionally slow servers can do it in real-time.
I’m guessing that’s not the issue. But there are other reasons (subtitles, codecs) the old player might trigger full transcoding.
This seems to be resolved for me with the latest Plex client on iOS & iPadOS. The issue still persists in the macOS client though.
