PSA: for anyone else annoyed this hasn’t been fixed yet, check out the Infuse app. Straightforward content player that links to your Plex Server (and no annoying UI bugs). I don’t think I’ll ever use Plex’s first party apps again. I’m not affiliated with Infuse, just happy I found an alternative.
iPhone 15 Pro
Enable lock to landscape
Close app
Start app
Start playback
If you lock landscape mode and never close the app, everything plays nice. You can play videos and the menu will stay in place. As soon as you close the app, reopen and start playback, the menu is displaced.
If you disable landscape lock while the bug is present, reenabling landscape lock does not resolve the issue.
My guess is that there is some interaction between the initial app load, the landscape lock setting and initializing playback that confuses the UI.
Potentially something that thinks we want to squash the portrait view of the app to landscape dimensions?
I’m able to reproduce it simply by having lock to landscape enabled, and having iOS orientation lock on.
As long as the above conditions are met, starting playback causes the menu bar to move.
As mentioned somewhere in a post above, the problem does not occur if you open the home menu (side menu) before starting playback.
(I.e. if you open Plex, then tap the Home menu at the top left, you can then watch video without the problem occurring until you close the app).
This bug has been present for me on the 12 & 15 Pro Max iPhones.
Bug is only present if the Plex app is opened and playback is started with the following settings:
System Rotation Lock: OFF
Lock to Horizontal: ON
If the app is started with any other configuration of those settings the bug does not present.
iOS 17.4.1
Plex Version 8.34
Bumping. Same issue
Same issue here. iPhone 15 Pro. Locked to landscape is the only setting that causes this issue for me. Been having this issue since I got this phone, and I’ve checking for updates for this app, hoping that this bug has been fixed. Nothing yet
a potential fix for this was just finished and should hopefully be in a beta soon but I don’t have an exact ETA
