I see that there have been several reports of this issue and I wanted to find out if this is something that will eventually be fixed. I recently noticed that videos filmed on phones like an iPhone 14/15 Pro Max and some Samsung S24 Ultras (sometimes directly, sometimes via the DJI Mimo app) appear stretched or upside down when played on my TV (Sony A95K and NVIDIA SHIELD PRO 2019) but they play perfectly fine in the web browser and on the computer.

Is there a setting I can enable/disable to resolve this? I know that if I play the video back in a different quality or set Plex to “Convert Automatically” then it can play fine but I don’t have that option for all my videos. I have also seen some people report having to put the video through handbrake but I have so many and just finding each problematic one is going to take forever.

Many thanks!

I have the same experience. I have an LG Smart TV and route the audio/video through a Google Chromecast 4k TV streaming device to my Yamaha home theater receiver. When I view my home videos that were taken with an iPhone in Plex they appear rotated 90 degrees counter clockwise and stretched horizontally. As in the original post, if I change the playback resolution, the video will play right-side up, but is stretched horizontally.
When I watch the same videos in Plex from the same LG Smart TV without the Google Chromecast, they appear normal. They also display normally in Plex on my laptop browser.
In the Plex app (new 2025 version update) on my iPhone they appear normally in pillar block resolution, but I have to rotate my phone to landscape orientation to watch the video.
