IPTV support

IPTV support is needed and xteve while functional isn’t an ideal solution. Why is this taboo for Plex?

Most IPTV providers, that you can find with relative ease on the internet, offer TV streams that are obtained against the copyright holders terms and redistributed, this goes for Cable, Satellite and Pay Per View services.

Because of this it’s easier for Plex to stay on the safe side by simply not implemeting IPTV support.

While we all can agree there are illegal sites out there nothing from Google prevents chrome from visiting a site. Is your feedback actual language from Plex or is it your opinion?
Some sites are legal.
Being up front I’m not looking for an argument and I’m not trolling. Just looking for technical restrictions that prevent this one function.

there are no “technical” restrictions, however there is a moral restriction which is probably stopping them, there are no legal IPTV sources.

as plex have partnerships with content distributors it’s unlikely they would add a function for IPTV.

it is rather counter to what plex originally was for - a client/server to watch ripped/sourced content - but it is what it is.

if you want native IPTV support you’ll need to use Emby or Jellyfin

Cool.
I wish we had an alternative to xteve. As I said initially, it’s functional but not ideal.
Oh well it is what it is.

xteve works perfectly fine, it does exactly what it was designed to do.

As I said I’m not trolling or interested in an arguments or point/counter-point back and fourth. In my humble opinion xteve is functional. That’s not an insult. I just feel it could be better.
We both have opinions. Opinions aren’t facts mine isn’t a fact neither is yours.

Thanks for the information though it’s been very helpful have a great day.

probably, but that isn’t the fault of plex.
you’d need to take up that with the xteve developer.

Categorically not completely true, although I’ll admit to being in the very much minority case. My provider is fully IPTV based via UDP multicast groups on a dedicated network. I’m pulling in streams with their full knowledge with a tvHeadend/tvhProxy method. I’ll also note that while I’d like to use xTeve, xTeve doesn’t work with UDP multicasts. I’ve been running this for 5 years now.

Thanks for the information. Nice to see someone speaking on the actual topic and not rhetoric. I really appreciate your input, it’ll be helpful.

that’s not what people mean when referring to “IPTV” though.
you know that and i know that, and the OP doesn’t want to say it but they know it too.

all posts have been “on topic”, stop trying to play the smart ass

So now that you’ve descended into foul language or name calling you can go blow. I have been :100: respectful. For those comments that provided insight my response has been to say “thanks”.
Stop trolling. Of course there are illegal services out there but performing illegal acts isn’t my focus.

So again go blow.

Afaict the OP got his answer earlier in this topic, so.I’m closing this before it gets out of hand with the name calling
