I’m trying to make my IPTV setup work. I got Plex Media Server (with Plex Pass) running on my Mac in which I setup xTeVe v2 as proxy for Live TV and DVR. As a client I use Plex for Apple TV.
Now, everything works correctly. However, whenever I switch channel it takes a while to start streaming, which is unpleasant, while if I directly use VLC or other IPTV Apple TV player with the xTeVe M3U list, without going through Plex Media Server, it works superfast.
I discovered, in the video info within the Plex App on the Apple TV that the video is transcoded. Strangely enough, the video is an mp4, H-264, AAC and in fact the video info indicates that the transcoding is H-264 - H-264, AAC-AAC, while the transcoding reason being the video could not be played on the device so Direct Play is not available. I disabled all subtitles and enabled maximum streaming quality for video and audio from both sides, just in case, but still the video is transcoded. The fact that other IPTV players on Apple TV manages to play it directly should also indicate that no transcoding is needed theoretically
Now, apart from the unpleasant wait for the stream, I don’t want to load my Mac with transcoding anyway, so I really want to get Direct Play working.
What am I doing wrong? Asking you for help.
