Curious if you’re running your PMS on the Shield or on another host. I’m observing these issues with both client and server running on the same Shield TV Pro.
i’m running server on a NAS, so it’s not an issue specifically with running the server on the shield.
and regarding your step-by-step walkthru
- Wake Shield from sleep
- Start video playback and then immediately pause
- Allow Shield to go to screensaver
- Wake from screensaver
- Resume playback
- Observe audio playback starts but video playback doesn’t start for several seconds
steps 2-5 aren’t needed, as the issue happens straight away on playback. no need to pause etc to replicate it.
I only put that there because I can very consistently replicate it using that path.
My movies are not on my shield they’re on a server and when I look at my server CPU and RAM it doesn’t even spike it all

My server currently runs on my NUC with storage on the NAS.
Because of the testing I do, I also have servers on much smaller machines (DS1815+ (c2538), DS418j, and TS-128A (armv8) pulling media from the NAS.
Everything is DirectPlay. (this is key)

I have been posting logs for months + just posted a new set of server (DEBUG) and shield logs, along with a sample file.
Yes, I saw it. I am trying to figure out how to combine all these similar threads into one thread which makes sense.
By having multiple threads, a lot gets missed and a lot gets unnecessarily duplicated which only adds to confusion.
I am very interested in what happens when you test with my video?
- Create “Other Videos” section type.
- Add my video
- Play it.
Yeah I did test with your video and was unable to reproduce the issue, even after testing it a good 20+ times. So while it is specific to my video, I can also reproduce it easily with literally hundreds of my video files - but only ever on the Shield.
Can you provide a sample of one of them, AND the XML for it , so I may inspect ?

What happens when you test with my file ?
Those are the logs I am requesting as that gives us a known reference point.
Your file plays fine - direct play everything, just like mine.
I am on holiday for the next week and I am unable to grab that specific set of logs, but to be honest, it is probably in the set that I already provided as I was testing your file only 10-20 minutes prior.

What I’m now anxiously awaiting are the results from others.
It give insight which direction we need to go in.
I think there are others in the other thread with the same issue that might be able to provide logs in the meantime
