It’s great that Plex has remained committed to supporting personal music files, and we get frequent updates to Plexamp… But it’s also a real shame that the system is not more accommodating of some of our use cases.
Most of my library fits pretty neatly into the system, as they are “real” releases that can be looked up. I’m also not particular at all about stuff like cover art, visible catalog numbers and exact dates. I’m a 95% good match for Plex’s way of doing things and have a large library with few issues.
But even I have stuff that is a very poor fit, like a directory full of DJ mixes, or a collection of Beatport releases.
I feel like a relatively small set up upgrades could make Plex dramatically better for music.
Yes, it’s all making a lot more sense, having lived with it for a couple of days.
It’s basically the same as Roon where I have to remove an album from the library, clear the caches & put it back again. This almost always fixes it. (Roon has an issue with M4A (ALAC?) files where I have to “de-identify” the album but other than that it’s good as gold.)
Interestingly, Plex seems to be quite happy filing my AIFF files correctly. I’ll keep an eye on it, in case I have to do any FLAC conversions.
It can do that, if the album can be “matched” correctly from the folder structure and file names. But all the metadata then usually come from Musicbrainz.org (and a few other sources) and not your embedded meta tags.
