No, it is currently not possible to use the DVR service through streaming providers such as DirecTVNow. Currently you can only use it for over the air/antenna broadcasts, and with any cable provider that will provide you with a tuner card.

It would be awesome though!

Someone needs to figure this out… I would pay for this option.

You may want to look at PlayOn Desktop or PlayOn Cloud, that works with other streaming services and may work with DirecTV Now.

I have playon desktop and can transfer the recordings to watch in Plex, but the selection of shows to record in the desktop version is SO different from what is available live, it is not funny. And you cannot record live, only from the selections available from the channels, and some of the channels don’t provide ANY for playlater.
I would like one source for my TV and Movie watching, not one for live tv and one for shows I have missed and am lucky enough to be able to record .

DirecTVNow’s DVR service is coming soon, so they say. Other providers like Sling and YouTubeTV have currently available options. Have you considered switching up?

I have considered and went with DTVNOW because of the local channels.
I will investigate further.

YouTube TV has locals and a version of DVR. All of the major streaming services have free trials. Try them all.

I tried DirectTV for about 3 month or so. I got a free Apple TV out of the deal so it was worth it IMO.

The service had some issues especially with its library of streaming shows that they had on offer. It would just freeze-up randomly. Sometime Live TV would do the same and I was certain it wasn’t an issue with my internet service.

It also didn’t have all the local channels.

Hopefully the service has gotten better.

The price was great though.
