Is migrating PMS from Synology to Qnap possible? If so, what are the steps?

I have a DS918+ on DSM7 and the latest version of PMS. I’m running out of space and need significantly more storage.

I was initially considering the DS1821+ but the lack of hardware acceleration is making me reconsider. My library is a mixture of 1080p and 4k. I have only a handful of users, and frankly most streams are direct play. Even so, the 1821 feels like a bad choice.

The QNAP TVS-872XT looks nice, and certainly pricey, but I’m curious about migrating PMS data from Synology to QNAP. Is it possible? If so what are the steps?

On the Plex website they have Articles, sort of like a User manual wiki.
For your issue, try

Hopefully they’ve smoothed out the process where your old server is removed from their database and your new one comes up with the old name.

If it were me, I’d create a test server, and test migrate it.

One nice thing you can do between the Syno (which has the Transcoding hardware) and any QNAP … is connect via NFS. I do it all the time.

If you want to move from DSM 7 to a bigger QNAP also with transcoding hardware,
I have a much better way for you to relocate the server. (The support article is extremely generic)
