Is Plex a Complement or Replacement for Netflix, Hulu and/or Amazon Video for you

I’m just curious if Plex is, for those who will comment, an addition to or replacement for the major streaming services.

Given the large libraries of some, I assume replacement. For me though, I see Plex more as a place to keep content that isn’t offered on Hulu or Netflix - like the Simpsons. I also like it to store personal media like photos. I use Hulu a fair amount.

Thus my library is less than 10 TB. Am I the only one?

For me Hulu or any ad-based service is out of the question. I do not watch advertising - period - and I certainly don’t pay to watch advertising. That is sheer madness.

I maintain the fastest internet connection available to me - currently 60/6.

I record (or acquire) TV Shows and where applicable MCEBuddy and Comskip automatically removes advertising, then converts the media to a direct playable form and places it automatically into the Plexiverse.

I subscribe to Netflix periodically, but each time I subscribe for a while I question it’s value to me - and haven’t subscribed for well over a year. I still get 3 DVDs and BluRays out at a time from NF and these somehow make their way into the Plexiverse (it’s strange how that happens all by itself… by accident… I can’t explain it).

I use Amazon Prime often, but not nearly as often as Plex. I maintain Prime for the shipping - the Videos are just a happy coincidence.

I have never been a cable/sat subscriber and have no plans to ever join the ranks. There has never been anything I wanted to watch badly enough that couldn’t find it’s way into the Plex ecosystem. If I want to see it any small amount of labor involved is just the cost of doing bidniss.

Plex and the few streaming services I maintain provide all I need to watch now and will likely continue to provide for my needs in the future.
