In 2013 to around 2015, I was a movie and TV show hoarder that downloaded every movie and show that I might actually watch. Plus, I was just getting my feet wet in school with networking, so managing my own personal media server and always tweaking settings and streaming equipment for higher bit rates was just something I loved.
Fast forward a few years and my media acquisition and consumption methods are very different. I no longer have interest in a personal collection of local media files. I subscribe to like 6 or 7 streaming services and am happy as a clam.
For some reason, I was under the impression that Plex had plug-ins for streaming services that would be installed on the server. Once installed and logged into the streaming service plug-ins, it was a more streamlined method of browsing content available through the services… maybe SSO (single sign-on) was part of it… I just can’t remember where, when, or how I started thinking this.
Now, did I make all that up in my head? Or is there a little bit of truth in what I’m remembering? I never tried to set that up… that was just my understanding of a feature I thought was available.
I’m still a Plex Pass lifetime member, so it would be nice to re-incorporate Plex if it’s got any value or purpose for people like me with no personal media collection.
I noticed that Plex has a free live TV service, but that’s not really of any interest as I’ve got plenty of premium services to choose from.
So are there other features, or new developments that might be worth checking out? It’s been a LONG time since I’ve been in the Plex loop regarding exciting changes, updates, or new features. I’d estimates AT LEAST 3 years (feels more like 4 or 5, but who knows lol).
