Is Plex optimizer a good way to convert my MKV and AVI to MP4? I have a large library of TV shows and am experiencing buffer issues due to too many transcodes happening at a time. I want to get everything in to MP4 for Direct Play capabilities.
My goal was to to use the optimizer to make all into MP4s, move them out of the temp optimized folder and over-write the MKV files in the main folders, and then delete the empty optimization folder. It seems to convert them MUCH faster than Handbrake does which takes forever, just don’t know if I’m missing something detrimental before I convert my whole library of 250 shows. Any advice is appreciated.
It will take a lot of time no matter what software you use.
For converting movies from MKV to mp4 I use Vidcoder. (it used Handbrake back end but much much simpler)
Plenty of options making the finished size whatever you want, the bit rate whatever you want and more.
It will delete the MKV when finished and put the new mp4 in the original folder.
Overnight drag 5-10 , 20 files into vidcoder and next morning some/all will be done.

Most of my movies are MP4 but almost all TV shows are MKV and therefore transcode always, causing skips and buffering to my family/friends. From everything I’ve read it seems that I don’t need to encode a new file though, that the better route is demux/remux to just switch the container?
