Is plex really charging for Streaming own content

As a user of mycloud home I never „chose“ plex as a media server and I never would. But there are no alternatives. Now plex wont let me watch my OWN content. The tell me I would need to subsribe and pay for my own content. How stupid do they think we are. Is this for real?

Your information source is incorrect.

You can use the free version of Plex to watch your own content on your local (home) network.

Streaming remotely, outside your local network, did change in late April. You now need a Plex Pass or Remote Watch Pass to stream to a remote device.

Google “Plex alternatives.” No idea if they’re available for WD NAS.

So you say I am right actually. Plex wants me to pay to watch my own content. How pathetic is this. I was watching on my mac on my own network at home. Now they want to charge me for that too. There is now way for me to get things running again on my mac browser. Well bye bye Plex

No.

I’ve no idea where you are getting this information, but it is absolutely wrong.

As mentioned in my first reply, you can use the free version of Plex Media Server to stream your own content on your home network.

If you are being asked to buy a Plex Pass or Remote Watch Pass to stream media on your home network, then there is either a Plex or network configuration issue.

My Source is plex itself. When I click on my content from home network it tells me to pay 1,99/month or 19,99 p.a. to be able to watch it.

Well, it was working right for years now. So plex lost control of it. I am in my home network for sure otherwise mycloud home would not work with plex at all.
And there is absolutely no support from plex. So why pay for this crap

You probably shouldn’t, but if you did a search or provided details about how you are watching besides, “on my mac,” people could probably help you.

Tell us what client you are using, (Mac app, web browser, or what?)

You probably have “limit ip address tracking,” on or another Mac setting that doesn’t report your true ip address to Plex and it views it as a remote connection and asks you to pay.

If this is purely for playing within your local network, here is a list with things to check: Client says it won't play from "remote server", although the server is local

May I see the SERVER DEBUG logs which show:

  1. Confirm DEBUG logging enabled

  2. Restart server

  3. Wait 2 minutes to complete startup & stabilize

  4. Start a playback session (recreating this issue)

  5. Now download the server logs (the ZIP file)

  6. Attach here.

If server and player are on the same LAN subnet,

If you have multiple subnets in your home, we can make make minor adjustments to the configuration for this.

Your server logs will show what needs to be done

No, he is not.

I got a new speaker, and because of the way it works I need to pay, despite being in my own house. I need to cough up.

And I am not giving the greedy scum, money so I can watch my stuff, on my hardware, over my paid services, and they provide nothing in this regard.

I just hope the other 80% of staff lose their jobs.

Moving over to Jellyfin.

Only mugs would pay to watch their own stuff.

Wow, so you got your TV, your sound system, your harddrives, your storage system, your network hardware, your internet connection all for free?

I’m genuinely impressed.

Exactly, I pay for them, not Plex.

How are your subnets defined ?

Not sure, but it really doesn’t matter Anyway.

I would have to pay to watch my own stuff if I am out the house anyway.
